Sister Miriam (Veronica Mary) Braun 92 years old, died at Maryvale under the care of St. Anne’s staff and CHI Home and Hospice, Valley City, North Dakota, June 24, 2024. Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2024, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., June 28 with visitation at 9:00 a.m. All will be held at Maryvale Chapel, 11550 River Road, Valley City, ND.  The service will be live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with her obituary on her tribute page at www.lerudmathias.com.  An online guestbook is available there as well.

Veronica Mary Braun was born, September 23, 1931, at home near Foxholm, ND to Alois and Anna (Berlinger) Braun. She attended a one room schoolhouse near Foxholm, ND through 11th grade, then attended high school at Notre Dame Academy, Willow City, ND, and graduated from St. Catherine’s School, Valley City, ND in May 1949. She made Vows of consecrated chastity, obedience and poverty to God with the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation, November 21, 1950. She received a bachelor’s degree from Great Falls College in Great Falls, Montana, August 1962. She completed a Master of Arts in Education at St. Cyril & St. Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan, 1986.

Sister Miriam Braun served as an elementary school teacher at St. Boniface School, Walhalla, ND, 1950-67, becoming principal in 1957. She was an elementary school teacher at St. Catherine’s School, Valley City, ND, 1967-69, and St. Louis School, Princeton, IL, 1969-77. She served as a teacher and principal at St. Boniface School, Walhalla, ND 1977-78. She was the Religious Education Coordinator at St. Cecilia’s Parish, Harvey, ND, 1978-80 and St. Anthony’s and St. Ann’s parishes in Spring Valley, IL, 1980-88. She spent 38 years in education as a teacher, principal and Religious Education Coordinator. She cared for elderly in their homes in St. Paul, MN, 1989-95. She provided pastoral care at St. Andrew’s and St. Mark’s Parishes in Bottineau and Westhope, ND, 1995-2011 and at SMP Health – St. Andrew’s, Bottineua. She continued pastoral care at St. Celicia’s and St. Anthony’s Parishes in Harvey and Selz, ND, 2011-2018.

She is survived by her Religious Community, the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation, and nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her siblings: Edmund, Ewald, Joseph, Sr. Adeline, Alois, Jr., Sr. Monica Mary, Herman, Herbert, Sylvester, Raphael Braun; and Theresa Velo, Rose Mary Claypole Fager.
