Mariann Maine, age 90, passed away in her heavenly sleep in the early hours of June 21, 2024, at Edgewood Vista in Fargo.
The funeral service will be at 10 AM Monday, July 1, 2024, at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, North Dakota. The visitation will be one hour before the service at the chapel. The burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota
Mariann Lang was born July 16, 1933, in Stanton, North Dakota to Gust and Ida Lang the youngest girl in a family of nine children. Growing up she attended school in Stanton playing on the basketball team, helping her sister Marge and brother-in-law Roy in the pool hall and helping her “Auntie and Uncle,” Lydia and John, who lived in Hazen, North Dakota.
In 1950, she married Oscar Hagen in Bismarck, North Dakota and through this marriage came three children, Hal, Sandy and Karen. After moving to Valley City, she worked at the Nu Bar, Fritches Garden and the Land O’ Lakes turkey plant.
In 1968, she married Melvin Maine and they had a son Mark and she gained a daughter Rhonda Maine. In the years following she was active in her birthday club, was on the Getchell Township election board, was on the council at the Barnes County Senior Center for a few years and took care of BINGO there for almost 20 years.
In her spare time, she always enjoyed a cup of coffee and a visit with family and friends and became known as the BINGO Queen to her family. Her biggest joy was babysitting and spending time with her granddaughters Karsyn and Morgyn.
She is survived by her children Sandy Farrelly, Redding, California, Karen Hagen, Fargo, Mark (Karla) Maine, Valley City; granddaughters Karsyn Maine, Valley City and Morgyn Maine of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Mariann is also survived by one brother Leslie (Nelda) Lang, Stanton, one sister-in-law Jean Richards of Kelso, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mariann was preceded in death by her parents, husbands’ Oscar Hagen and Melvin Maine; son Hal Hagen; daughter Rhonda Maine; son-in-law Peter Farrelly and her seven brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank all of those who helped care for Mariann over the past few years especially Hospice of the Red River Valley and the staff at Edgewood Vista. We also want to thank Carole and Gary Miedema for treating our mother like one of the family.
The family requests memorials be made to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Barnes County Senior Center.
