FARGO, N.D. (LWVND) – The League of Women Voters of North Dakota (LWVND) deployed nonpartisan volunteer election observers to provide reports from over 30 polling sites across 9 cities on June 11, 2024. Volunteers observed at polling sites in Fargo, West Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck, Mandan, Dickinson, Jamestown, Wahpeton, and Devils Lake.

“Our nonpartisan observers sent us reports of friendly poll workers, positive voting experiences, and democracy in action at the local level,” said Mary C. Tintes, LWVND vice president who also served as an election observer. “This reinforces that voters should have full confidence in our election process and that their vote is counted.”

Reports completed by observers included information about the polling sites, signage, wait times, poll workers, accessibility, and voter experience.

One volunteer reported: “Poll workers created a friendly atmosphere, maintained joyfully helpful attitudes, and upheld a strong commitment to ensuring an efficient voting process for all.”

No major disruptions to the election process were observed across the state. If a line of voters occurred, voters were processed quickly with a wait time of around 10 minutes. The most common recommendation from observers was the need for additional signs either outside or inside the polling site to direct voters where to go.

State and county election officials have been working for months to ensure that North Dakota’s elections remain safe, secure, and accessible. This crucial work of election administrators is largely invisible to the public. The League would like to thank election officials and poll workers for doing the essential work of administering our elections in North Dakota. One observer noted, “I learned a lot and have increased respect for the kind, devoted, hard working election officials and the County Auditors who train them.”

The 53 counties in North Dakota will be canvasing the election results from the June 11th Primary/Election.
