JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A teenage girl reported as a possible runaway was safely returned home after an extensive investigation by the Jamestown Police Department and multiple agencies led to the arrest of a high-risk sex offender.
On June 8, the JPD was contacted by a family member of the girl, who was initially reported missing from a community in western North Dakota. The family member expressed concerns that the teenager might be in Jamestown and possibly held against her will.
Following several leads, JPD identified a suspect believed to be harboring the juvenile. The suspect, Loring Riel Sky Rush, 38, of Jamestown, is a registered high-risk sex offender supervised by NDDOCR Parole and Probation through a GPS ankle monitor. Despite attempts to track Rush’s movements, JPD was unsuccessful.
In the early hours of June 9, JPD executed a nighttime search warrant at Rush’s residence, but the teenager was not found. However, later that evening, the girl returned home safely. The Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department also joined the investigation due to its multi-jurisdictional nature.
On June 10, the NDDOCR Probation office began assisting in the case. Investigators allege that Rush transported the girl back to her home and that she had been with him from around May 23 until June 9.
On June 11, at approximately 10:26 a.m., Rush was located driving in the 3300 block of 3rd Street SE. JPD conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody. Rush was arrested on suspicion of Felony Corruption or Solicitation of a Minor and transported to Stutsman County Correctional Center, where he awaits formal charges.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
