Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Post 36 Tornadoes found themselves down 5 early to Lidgerwood-Hankinson (LH) on Thursday but they would battle back with a 6 run 3rd inning to win 11-7.

LH got started right away in the first inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits to get a 3-0 lead right away. Max Walock would then strike out 2 batters to end the threat but Oakes couldn’t get anything going in their half of the inning. LH would score 2 unearned runs in the 2nd to extend the lead to 5-0 as Oakes would hurt themselves with 2 errors in the inning. That’s when Oakes would begin to battle back as Zade Heier would walk aboard advance to 2nd base on a errant pick-off attempt then score on a couple wild pitches.

Walock would lock it down in the third inspite of an error. Oakes would then score 6 runs off of 5 hits and an error to take a 7-5 lead as their first 5 batters would all get on and score. LH would not go quietly into the night though as they’d take advantage of 3 more errors to tie the game up at 7-7 in the top half of the 4th. Oakes would then reclaim the lead right back scoring 2 runs on 2 hits to take the lead for good at 9-7.

James Throener would replace Walock to start the 5th inning at pitcher. He would strike out the side in the 5th and continue to 5 straight k’s before Oaklee Medenwalt hit a single to break up the streak. Throener would then strike out the next batter in the 6th. Oakes would score 2 more runs in the 6th to stretch the lead to 11-7. LH would put one over the minimum amount of batters in the 7th as Throener completed the 3 inning save to win 11-7.

The winning pitcher was Max Walock going 4.0 IP giving up 4 hits, 3 walks, and 7 runs of which 3 were earned while striking out 8. Jarrett Fredrickson would be handed the loss going 4.0 IP giving up 7 hits, 3 walks, and 6 runs all earned while striking out 1. The Save goes to James Throener who went 3.0 IP giving up 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 7.

The Bank North Player of the Game was James Throener.
