JAMESTOWN – He played as a Viking, but he will now coach the Jimmies.
Former Valley City State men’s golf standout Jared Lentz has been named as the new golf head coach at the University of Jamestown.
In four years at VCSU (2015-19), Lentz won six events, had two top-10 finishes at the NSAA Men’s Golf Championships and was twice a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete. From his freshman year to his senior year, his scoring average improved by four strokes.
Lentz is active in amateur golf and has twice won Labor Day Match Play Championships at Jamestown Country Club. He also has worked with multiple golf coaches and two PGA professional teachers around Fargo-Moorhead.
He also is a former assistant basketball coach at Valley City High School.
Lentz takes over for Zach Hale, who resigned in January. UJ Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dustin Jensen, in his third stint as the Jimmies’ head coach, served on an interim basis for the rest of this past season.
