MINOT – Too many mistakes can add up, and mistakes led to the end of the 2024 Jamestown Blue Jay baseball season.
Dickinson defeated Jamestown Friday 11-2 in a loser out game of the Class A West Region baseball tournament on a chilly and windy day at Corbett Field.
Dickinson (20-10) had only six hits, but took advantage of five walks, three Jamestown errors, four wild pitches, a hit batter, a passed ball and a balk.
Jamestown (9-14) lost while outhitting their opponent for the second straight day. The Jays earned their runs on an RBI groundout by Thomas Newman and an RBI single by Jaxon Kolpin in the first inning.
Dickinson then plated three runs in their half of the first on a balk by Adam Sortland (2-3) and a two-run single by Colin Tschetter.
Extra-base hits produced two more Dickinson runs in the second. Jace Kovash had an RBI double and Kaeden Krieg smashed an RBI triple.
Dickinson took the game out of Jamestown’s reach with a five-run fourth inning. Derek Hatlewick, who had struck out the side after entering in relief in the third inning, struck out Malachi Medina to lead off the fourth, but a wild pitch allowed Medina to reach. Two more wild pitches led to another run and a second run scored when Camden Kubas hustled to the plate as Jack Price was thrown out at first on a dropped third strike. The only hit of the inning for Dickinson was a line drive three-run home run to left field by Jeremiah Jilek, his first home run of the season.
In the fifth, Dickinson scored on an error, a wild pitch, a passed ball and an RBI on a squeeze bunt by Camden Kubas.
Sortland gave up five runs in two innings. Hatlewick gave up six runs in three innings.
