MINOT – A stinging loss now has Jamestown Blue Jay Baseball on the brink.

Despite outhitting Legacy, the Blue Jays lost to the Sabers Thursday 2-1 in the quarterfinal of the Class A West Region Tournament at Corbett Field.

Jamestown had eight hits to Legacy’s four, but stranded seven runners, had a runner thrown out at the plate and another picked off.  And errors led to both Legacy runs.

Jaxon Kolpin drove in the run for Jamestown (9-13) with a single in the first inning, but the Jays left the bases loaded.

Legacy (19-11) tied the game in the fourth on an infield hit, an error and two wild pitches by Thomas Newman (4-3).

In the Jamestown fourth, Kaiden Hakanson, who had hit a leadoff double, tried to score on a two-out single by Braxton Perkins, but was thrown out at the plate.

Legacy then grabbed the lead in the fifth on a double and an error.

Kolpin singled in the sixth inning, but was then picked off by Legacy starter Jameson Johnson, who had nine strikeouts.

Newman struck out three and walked two.  Both runs he allowed were unearned.

Jamestown will play an elimination game on Friday, weather permitting, against Dickinson, who lost Thursday 4-3 to Williston.  Coverage will begin at around 10:45 AM on Friday on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
