STEELE- Grady Shipman tossed a gem, Corbin Clifton went deep again, and the #1-seed Carrington Cardinals opened the Region III Tournament with a 4-1 win over #5-seed LaMoure-LM on Monday afternoon.

After a scoreless first, Max Whittman led off the second by reaching on an error and advanced on a fielders choice by Jacob Boeshans in which no out was recorded.  Tate Wolsky then singled and an error allowed Whitman to score the games first run.  Another error scored two more and the Cardinals led 3-0.

That was plenty for Shipman, who went 6 2/3 innings, allowed just five hits and an unearned run, while walking three and striking out 16.  In the sixth, Clifton hit a long home run to left field, his second of the year and second in Steele, to set the final score.

Carrington advances to face New Rockford-Sheyenne on Tuesday in a Semifinal with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 9:45am.  The Black Sox defeated Kidder County 8-1 on Monday
