Casselton, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes season came to a close at the Region 1 Tournament as they fell to the Kindred-Richland Vikings by a final score of 7-1.
The Tornadoes bats started off cold through the first 5 innings of play as they’d only get one baserunner in those first innings via walk. There’d be 6 Tornado strikeouts as well through the first 5.
The Vikings started well as they’d get their first 2 men aboard for the game and then scoring both of them one via error and one via sac fly. They’d get 2 more off of a 2 run homerun from Luke Starcevic to take a 4-0 lead after 1 inning of play. Michael Hoistad would then settle down for the middle innings until the 5th when the Vikings would score 3 more runs off of 3 hits.
Oakes would then get an opportunity to battle back in the 6th as they’d get on the board after a Tristen Peterson double, Joseph Dobitz would single and a James Throener would drive in Peterson with an RBI single. Dobitz would be thrown out going from 1st to 3rd however. Chris Titus would walk aboard and Throener would steal 3rd putting runners on the corners. With Hoistad batting Titus would go for 2nd but be gunned down for the 2nd out. Fisher Johnson would then strike out Hoistad to end the threat.
That’d be the end of the Tornado threats as they’d get Cooper Quandt on via hbp and that’d be it for the 7th. The final score would be 7-1.
The winning pitcher was Fisher Johnson who had 7 strikeouts and gave up 3 hits across 6 innings pitched. The losing pitcher was Michael Hoistad who had 7 strikeouts and 7 hits across 6 innings pitched.
The Tornadoes season now comes to a close with a 5-10 overall record. Kindred-Richland advances in the Region Tournament.
