Casselton, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes struggled to get much offense going as Grayson Dockter struck out 14 to lead the Oak Grove Grovers to a first round victory winning 6-1.
The scoring would get started for the Grovers in the 2nd inning as they’d get Elliott Butenhoff aboard via error and then get him around to score off of a Foster Lord Single. The Tornadoes would then get 2 men in scoring position before Dockter got the 3rd out to end the threat.
The Grovers would score another 2 runs in the 3rd off of 2 hits to take a 3 run lead. They’d add another run in the 4th off of 2 hits to take the 4-0 lead. Oakes would then get the bases loaded with 1 out before Dockter struck out the next 2 batters to end the threat.
Dockter would then have a 2 run homerun in the 5th to take the 6-0 lead. James Throener would single in the bottom half of the 5th and get home on a dropped 3rd strike but that’d be the final scoring play of the game as the next two innings saw no hits for Oakes.
Oak Grove had one last chance to expand their lead after loading the bases in the 7th before Chris Titus, catcher, picked off Jack Deitz at 1st to end the threat. Oakes would get Titus aboard via error in their half of the final frame but they couldn’t get him around as they fell 6-1.
The winning pitcher was Grayson Dockter going the distance with 2 walks and 14 k’s. Brogan Roney would be issued the loss going for a complete game with 4 walks and 4 strike outs.
Oak Grove advances to play Central Cass. The Tornadoes will play Saturday at approximately 1:30 against Enderlin in a loser out game. You can catch the Oakes game on KDDR The Tornado with pregame beginning at around 1:10 pm.
