CASSELTON, N.D. (NDHP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol said a 43-year-old man from Omaha, Nebraska was seriously injured in a crash on Wednesday, May 15 about 7am.

The Highway Patrol said a 2021 Toyota Tacoma was southbound on 154th Ave SE just west of Casselton. A Burlington
Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train was traveling westbound. The driver, John Bauer failed to yield and attempted to cross the railroad tracks. The BNSF train struck the front of the Toyota causing it to spin out, striking a cross buck sign and came to rest facing south to the northwest of the crossing.

Bauer suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sanford hospital, Fargo. He was cited for Distracted Driving, DUI, Open container of an alcoholic beverage, and Unlawful possession of THC.

The agencies Involved included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and Casselton
Ambulance.
