WILLISTON – Jamestown Blue Jay baseball took a step toward an automatic WDA tournament quarterfinal berth before Williston made the Jays take a step back.
Jamestown and Williston split a doubleheader Thursday, with the Blue Jays winning game one 12-3 and the Coyotes taking the second game 10-0 in five innings at Ardean Affedt Stadium.
Game 1: Jamestown 12, Williston 3
As Jamestown (7-10, 7-8 WDA) scored in every inning, Tyson Jorissen continued his hot hitting, going four-for-four with a double, three singles, a sacrifice fly and three RBI. Jorissen has driven in 10 runs in the last week.
Derek Hatlewick delivered a two-run single for the Blue Jays and Bennett Goehner hit Jamestown’s first 2024 home run, a two-run shot against the wind to left field.
Thomas Newman (4-1) pitched five innings for the win, allowing three runs and six hits, striking out five.
Adam Sortland and Braden Hemminger also drove in runs for Jamestown.
Game 2: Williston 10, Jamestown 0 (5)
Jaxon Jeannotte had two hits and three RBI for Williston and Justin Irgens was four-for-four with two RBI as Jamestown pitching struggled, allowing nine hits and 10 walks and hitting six batters.
Jamestown (7-11, 7-9) was no-hit for the second time this season as lefthander Colby Collings struck out three and walked two, not allowing a Blue Jay past first base.
These results end Williston’s WDA regular season with an 8-10 record. This means that Jamestown must sweep a doubleheader with Dickinson Friday at Jack Brown Stadium to clinch sixth place in the conference and an automatic spot in the quarterfinals of next week’s WDA tournament.
