FARGO- The Cardinal softball team continued play in Midseason Madness IV on Saturday, dropping games to Washburn and De-Lacs Burlington/Lewis & Clark.
Washburn 8 Carrington 5
Maara Kutz had two hits and scored two runs, Brynn Smith had an RBI but Washburn picked up the 8-5 win. Kutz also tossed a complete game, allowing just five hits while punching out a career-high 11.
De-Lacs Burlington/Lewis & Clark 17 Carrington 7
Maara Kutz finished a triple shy of the cycle and the Cardinals led the sixth-ranked Lakers early thanks to first inning RBIs from Katie Allmaras on a triple and Brynn Smith on a groundout. In the second, Kutz launched a two-run homer for the 4-0 lead. The Lakers did not take the lead until the fifth inning and pulled away afterwards.
The Cardinals are back in action Tuesday at Harvey Wells County in a rematch of Friday’s 9-8 loss to wrap up the regular season. Carrington will then host Larimore on Thursday in the 2024 Class B Region II play-in game with coverage beginning at 4:45 PM on KDAK The Cardinal.
