The Valley City Hi-Liners couldn’t shake free from their mistakes. Six errors by the Hi-Liners allowed nine unearned runs to come around and score, as Valley City fell to the Sheyenne Mustangs 12-6.
The game started out about as well as Valley City could’ve hoped. The Hi-Liners chased the Mustangs’ opening pitcher from the game before the end of the first inning, drawing four walks and scoring three runs. That lead would be short-lived after a pair of errors in the bottom of the first inning allowed six runs (five unearned) to come across to score to give Sheyenne a 6-3.
The Hi-Liners used good plate discipline again to pull themselves back with a run in the top of the second before a pair of strikeouts ended the frame. This would be as close as Valley City would get the rest of the way, as Sheyenne scored a run in every inning of the game as the Hi-Liners continued to beat themselves up with errors. Carver Pederson would take the loss on the mound after going 4.2 innings and allowing only three earned runs on the day despite leaving the game trailing 10-6.
Despite the loss, Ethan Miller had a productive day from the leadoff spot, registering both of Valley City’s hits and getting on base a third time after a hit-by-pitch in the fifth while scoring a pair of runs.
Valley City’s next game is Tuesday, May 14th, at 5:00 PM at home against the Grand Forks Central Knights. That game can be heard on 1490 AM/ 96.3 FM KOVC.
