CRETE, NE – The Jimmies pushed Doane to the limit, but the Tigers prevailed.
Jamestown Jimmie Baseball defeated Doane Saturday 8-6 to force a final game in the Doane Bracket of the GPAC baseball tournament, which was won by the Tigers 11-4 at the Doane Ballfield Complex.
Jamestown 8, Doane 6
Jordan Singleton’s second home run of the game, a two-run homer in the seventh inning, brought Jamestown (30-19) back from 4-2 and 6-4 deficits.
Singleton had earlier hit a third inning solo home run. Hayden Brown also homered for Jamestown, who also had RBI on a single by Ryan Muizelaar, a double by Julian Sansores and a groundout by RJ Woods. Jackson Bonneville also stole home.
Joe Hart (1-0) earned the win with two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief. Cade Torgerson, who pitched a complete game in the Jimmies’ 2-1 loss to Doane Thursday, earned the save.
Doane 11, Jamestown 4
Jett Nelson gave Jamestown its second lead of the game at 4-3 with a three-run double in the top of the fifth, but Doane took the lead for good with three runs in their half of the fifth, which was aided by a wild pitch and an error.
Doane led 7-4 going into the bottom of the eighth when Aaron Vulcano sealed the win with a grand slam.
Chase Burke drove in the first run for Jamestown with a bunt hit on a squeeze play in the first inning.
Connor Nipp (0-2) took the loss in relief.
Jamestown (31-19) earned its 17th season of at least 30 wins in the 25 seasons of Head Coach Tom Hager. This is the 12th time in the last 14 full seasons that the Jimmies have won at least 30.
