CRETE, NE – One swing made all the difference.
A two-run home run by Joe Osborn in the bottom of the third inning Thursday gave the Doane Tigers a 2-1 win over the Jamestown Jimmies in the Doane Pod of the first round of the GPAC Baseball Tournament at the Doane Ballfield Complex.
A throwing error by Jamestown third baseman Jackson Bonneville extended the Doane rally, and Osborn’s home run with two out made both runs unearned.
Other than that home run, starter Cade Torgerson (7-3) was excellent for Jamestown (28-18). He allowed five hits in six innings.
Jordan Singleton gave the Jimmies their only run with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. Doane starter Aaron Forest (10-0) pitched a six-hitter to improve to 4-1 lifetime against UJ.
Northwestern defeated Morningside 2-1 in the other game in the pod on Thursday.
Jamestown will meet Morningside in an elimination game on Friday. Coverage will begin at around 11:45 AM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1. Jamestown must win that game, then win another elimination game to advance to Saturday, where the Jimmies would have to win twice more to advance to Tuesday’s GPAC championship game.
