The funeral mass for Dorothy May Langer, 88, of Enderlin, North Dakota, formerly of Alice, North Dakota will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday, April 26, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Enderlin. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7pm with a prayer service at 7pm at the church. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Alice Community Cemetery, Alice. She died Monday, April 22 at CHI Hospital Lisbon, North Dakota.

Dorothy May Gerner was born June 14, 1935 in Hitterdahl, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Ella (Nemec) Gerner. She attended school and graduated from Hitterdahl High School. Dorothy attended Moorhead (MN) Business College where she met her future husband, Elden Langer, at a dance. They were married on June 25, 1954 in Alice. They made their home in the Alice and Fingal, North Dakota area. As she raised her family, she worked for various businesses in the area. They moved into Alice where they owned El & D’s Bar for several years. During that time, she also worked as a clerk at the Alice Post Office until they both retired. Elden passed away February 8, 2017. She continued to live in Alice until her health declined. She moved to Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, in September 2022.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking. She loved going to dances with Elden. She belonged to homemakers, Eagles Auxiliary and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a former member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Alice.

She is survived by eight daughters; Melody (Steve) Puhr, Fingal; Bonnie Loomer, Enderlin; Julie (David) Kurtz, Enderlin; Eileen (Mark) Zaun, New Town, North Dakota; Donna (Randy) Liebenow, Fingal; Diane (Brian) Hovland, Buffalo; Sandy (Chris) Beilke, Embden, North Dakota; and Sara (Greg) Pfaff, Fingal; 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, Joseph; a son-in-law Chuck Loomer; and two sisters Erma Bran and Mary Lensing.
