Kindred, ND – The Oakes Tornadoes couldn’t get their bats going against the Kindred-Richland Vikings falling 3-1 in spite of a great outing from Michael Hoistad.
The game started off with the Tornadoes going down in order to Vikings pitcher Owen Hoyme in the top of the 1st. The Vikings would then put to men on in scoring position one off a double and the other off a walk and stolen base. Hoistad would buckel down to end the inning and force the next batter into an infield pop fly and get the third out via punch out. Hoistad would then reach to start the 2nd inning off of an error. Tristan Peterson would run for him. Peterson would get to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball before Braxton Wyckoff would ground into a fielders choice at 2nd scoring the run. Hoyme would then strike out the next 2 batters.
The Vikings fought back in the 2nd inning getting their first man on and with 1 out getting another man on. Hoistad then induced a potential double play ground ball but Hoyme beat out the relay from 2nd to 1st to give Kylan Swenson a chance to bat with 2 on and 2 out. Swenson, on a full count, would slice a ball into right where Rhett Miller took a diving chance at the ball only for it to go in and out of his glove resulting in a 2 out 2 RBI double making the score 2-1.
Neither team got anything going in the 3rd but Hoistad would get the Tornadoes first hit in the 4th with a sharp ground ball down the 3rd baseline. Peterson would again pinch run making it to 2nd on a stolen base and to 3rd on a passed ball but Hoyme struck out the next two batters and induced a weak comebacker to end the threat. The Vikings would get Swenson on board in their half of the inning off of an E6 which saw the ball fly out of play. Swenson would then score off of a Stanley Buleskie single to give the Vikings a 3-1 lead.
Oakes would again threaten in the 5th inning putting James Throener and Chris Titus in scoring position with 2 outs but Hoyme would strike out Brogan Roney to end the threat. Neither team would score for the rest of the game resulting in the 3-1 final score.
The Bank North Player of the game was Michael Hoistad going 6 IP giving up 8 hits, 3 walks, and 3 runs of which 2 were earned, he also struck out 8 in his outing.
The Tornadoes are now 0-4 in Region 1 play and 0-5 overall. They now travel to Lidgerwood to play HFCRTL on Tuesday the 23rd at 5:00 PM. All the action can be heard on KDDR The Tornado.
