Vivian Stugelmeyer, 91, Valley City, North Dakota passed away Saturday, April 20 at the NCHS – Care Center in McVille, North Dakota. Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Monday April 29 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City with visitation one hour before the service. The burial will be in Memory Gardens, Valley City.
Vivian Fern Larson was born June 7, 1932, to Ole and Frances (Gabriel) Larson in Valley City. Following her graduation from Valley City High School she started with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator from 1951 to 1953. January 25, 1953, Vivian was united in marriage to Roland “Stugie” Stugelmeyer at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Following Stugie’s discharge from the United States Army, the couple returned to Valley City where they made their home. Vivian returned to her career as an operator which led to opportunities with Northwestern Bell, Wisconsin Telephone Company and AT&T in Valley City, Fargo, North Dakota, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jamestown, North Dakota. She retired from AT&T in 1984. In their retirement, Stugie and Vivian operated roller skating for 21 years throughout SE North Dakota. In later years Vivian and Stugie resided together at Bridgeview Assisted Living until his death in 2018. She resided there until 2022. Vivian moved to the NCHS – Care Center where she appreciated that “hometown” feel of a small nursing home.
Vivian was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church.
Vivian is survived by her two sons Randy (Sandra) Stugelmeyer, Chapala, Mexico, and Danny (Kim) Stugelmeyer, Valley City; four grandchildren, Brianna (Chad) Schilplin, Devin (Samy) Stugelmeyer, Corrina Weninger (fiancé Curtis Birks) and Seth Stugelmeyer; four great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her brother Toby Larson, Valley City.
Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years and five siblings.
