JAMESTOWN – A slump which began last Monday continued Sunday for Jamestown Jimmies Baseball.
Morningside handed the Jimmies their third and fourth straight losses with a doubleheader sweep by 4-1 and 11-3 at Jack Brown Stadium.
Game 1: Morningside 4, Jamestown 1
Aidan Bishop hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to complete a comeback for Morningside (29-14, 16-7 GPAC).
Jordan Singleton gave Jamestown (25-14, 11-10) its run with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first inning.
Jayson Willers evened the game with a solo home run in the Morningside fourth.
Avery Liestman (6-1) took his first loss as a Jimmie, allowing two runs and six hits in five innings.
Morningside starter Kai Purdy-Burton had 11 strikeouts, including striking out the side on nine pitches, or an “immaculate inning,” in the Jamestown sixth.
Chase Burke gave Jamestown a remarkable defensive play in the second inning, robbing Morningside’s Giacomo Crosetti of a home run by making a leaping catch over the wall in right center field.
Game 2: Morningside 11, Jamestown 3
Morningside (30-14, 17-7) took the lead for good by scoring three unearned runs with two out in the top of the fourth inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. An error by Jamestown’s Alex Alva brought in the tying run, then Eddie Brancato hit a two-run double.
Brancato also hit a solo homer and a two-run homer and drove in five runs.
Triston Madison hit his eighth home run with a man on in the second for Jamestown (25-15, 11-11). Alva hit a sacrifice fly.
Cade Torgerson (7-2) allowed six runs and eight hits in four innings.
Jamestown will host Concordia Monday at 2:00 PM at Jack Brown Stadium in a doubleheader of two seven-inning games.
