JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – St. John’s Academy’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students had a strong showing in this year’s Elks essay writing contest titled, “What the Bill of Rights Means to Me.” The contest, which encourages students to thoughtfully evaluate, and express views related to the theme, offers local, state, and national levels of competitions.

The Academy’s students excelled at the district level with first and second place selections in each grade level. Their entries have been forwarded onto the State level of competition with the hopes of advancing to Nationals, which will be held in Austin, Texas this July.

Academy Principal, Jeff Trumbauer, stated, “We’re proud of our students not only for their exemplary writing abilities but for their spirit of national patriotism. They did an awesome job, and our hope is that someone from our school will be fortunate enough to get to the National level. We appreciate the Elks providing the opportunity to our students at St. John’s Academy.”

1st place: Isla Anderson, Brady Althoff, and Destiny Johnson.

2nd place: Kenley Pierce, Brennan Barnick, and Klaire Vollrath.
