FREMONT, NE – Jamestown Softball met a challenge Saturday, becoming the first team this season to defeat the GPAC leader.

After Midland took the first game of a doubleheader 15-2, the Jimmies won the second game in nine innings, 3-1 at Schilke Fields.

Game 1: Midland 15, Jamestown 2 (5)

Roni Foote led Midland (32-4, 11-0 GPAC) with three hits and four RBI.  Aliyah Rincon pitched a three-hitter for her 19th win, fourth in NAIA softball.

Gentrey Turin drove in the runs for Jamestown (22-12, 6-7) with a second-inning double.

Game 2: Jamestown 3, Midland 1 (9)

Sam Martinez broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run double in the top of the ninth inning for Jamestown (23-12, 7-7).

Hope Ransome (9-4) pitched a complete game win for Jamestown, allowing just four hits, striking out eight and walking four.  Kayla Quintanilla drove in the first Jimmie run in the third inning with a double.

Midland (32-5, 11-1) had not lost in conference, counting last year’s postseason, in 18 games, dating back to a 9-5 loss in Jamestown on April 26 of last year.

Jamestown will host Doane in a doubleheader Friday at Trapper Lawrence Field.
