VALLEY CITY, ND  (VCSUVikings.com)  JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown snapped Valley City State’s 12-game win streak Tuesday, sweeping the non-conference doubleheader.

VCSU dropped the first game 10-1 in six innings as Jamestown’s Samarah Martinez hit a grand slam to decide the game by mercy rule. The Vikings then fell in a tight 3-2 battle, despite powering 11 hits in the game, including multiple hits from Ashlyn DiemertKennadi Stone and Maddy Zander.

The Vikings drop to 20-17 on the season while Jamestown improves to 22-9. VCSU resumes conference play at home April 20-21 against Dickinson State.

In the first game, Jamestown defeated the Vikings 10-1 in just six innings as Jimmie pitchers Abby Blair and Bristol Foytik allowed just three Viking hits in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.

Forseth, Gronberg and Maerin Dartnell each had a hit in the game and Forseth drove in Kennadi Stone for VCSU’s only run in the game.

Jamestown’s Blair got the win in the circle after pitching 5 complete innings. She allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out one. Samara Martinez finished with a double and a home run in the game, scored two runs and drove in four. Mackenzie Lefebvre added two hits, one run and three RBIs.

In game two, VCSU totaled 11 hits to Jamestown’s five hits in game two of the doubleheader, but it wasn’t enough as the Jimmies defeated the Vikings, 3-2.

Ashlyn Diemert and Maddy Zander each finished with two hits, a double, and scored a run for VCSU. Alyssa DePoorter also doubled.

Zander also got the loss in the circle after pitching a complete game. She allowed three runs on five hits, walked two and sturck out two.

Jamestown’s Hope Ransome got the win in the circle after allowing just three hits while pitching 3 and 1/3 innings in relief. Sunny Halsey started in the circle and pitched 3 and 2/3 innings. She allowed two runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out one.

Kayla Quintanilla and Martinez each doubled Tuesday, scored a run and drove in a run for the Jimmies. Gracie Fisher added a hit and an RBI in the game.
