JAMESTOWN – The Jimmies were glad to be back at Jack Brown Stadium Saturday, and they showed it.
Triston Madison homered three times as Jamestown Baseball swept Northwestern 2-1 and 20-2 in a doubleheader in their first home games since the fall.
Taking advantage of a southeast wind blowing out to right field as much as 35 miles an hour, Jamestown hit eight home runs in the twinbill.
Game 1: Jamestown 2, Northwestern 1
Madison broke up a brilliant pitching duel with a two-run game-winning homer in the bottom of the seventh. Jett Nelson batted just before Madison and reached second when Northwestern rightfielder Mason Porepp fell just before he would have caught a fly ball.
Avery Liestman (5-0) was excellent on the mound for Jamestown (20-9, 6-5 GPAC), giving up a run and six hits with three strikeouts.
Drew Dykstra was even better for Northwestern, save for Madison’s home run. That was the second hit in the game for the Jimmies.
Game 2: Jamestown 20, Northwestern 2 (7)
The Jimmies (21-9, 7-5) feasted on thin Northwestern pitching. Madison hit two of the Jimmies’ seven home runs, all of which went to either right-center or right field. Madison had a solo home run in the second inning, an RBI single in the third and a three-run homer in the fourth to drive in five runs.
Chase Burke, Alex Alva, Jordan Singleton, Ben Swennumson and Isaiah Roebuck also homered for Jamestown, who had 18 hits, scored all six times they batted and scored their most runs since April of last year. Roebuck’s home run was his first as a Jimmie in his third season with the team. Alva had four hits and four RBI and is hitting .405.
Ryan Radkey (3-1) pitched four effective innings in relief of injured starter Luke Zimmer.
The game was ended in the seventh inning by mutual agreement.
Home games scheduled with Mount Marty for Sunday were postponed and will be made up in Yankton, South Dakota on Monday.
