JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Jimmie Softball needed wins, and Saturday, they earned two.
UJ swept College of St. Mary 8-0 and 3-1 inside the Nelson Family Bubble to stop a four-game losing streak.
Game 1: Jamestown 8, College of St. Mary 0 (6)
Behind strong pitching from Sunny Halsey, the Jimmies won the opener. After Trinity Gregg tripled in the first inning, a wild pitch scored her.
Gregg added to the lead for Jamestown (19-9, 5-4) with a two-run double in the fifth inning, followed by a Sam Martinez walk and a Mackenzie Lefebvre sacrifice fly and UJ led 5-0 after four innings.
The Jimmies finished the game off in the sixth. Gregg singled in a run, then Martinez hit a two-run homer to end the game.
Halsey (3-0) struck out eight while walking just one in a three-hit shutout.
Game 2: Jamestown 3, College of St. Mary 1
After CSM scored in the first inning, the Jimmies, held to only two hits in the first five innings, rallied for their runs in the sixth.
Gregg hit an RBI single to tie the game for Jamestown (20-9, 6-4). Martinez drove in the go-ahead run on a squeeze play, where the throw to the plate was too late to retire Gentrey Turin. Kayla Quintanilla made the Jamestown lead 3-1 with an RBI groundout.
Hope Ransome (7-3) pitched a six-hitter with nine strikeouts and a walk.
A scheduled GPAC doubleheader against Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, South Dakota on Monday was postponed and will be made up at a later date. The Jimmies will host Valley City State in a doubleheader Tuesday.
