JAMESTOWN – For the second straight doubleheader, mistakes cost Jamestown Jimmies Softball.
Seven errors led to all Northwestern runs being unearned as the 11th-ranked Raiders swept Jamestown Wednesday 12-3 and 2-0 inside the Nelson Family Bubble.
Game 1: Northwestern 12, Jamestown 3 (5)
Three errors led to eight unearned runs in the third inning for Northwestern (27-2, 5-0 GPAC) after Jamestown took the early lead. Gwen Mikkelsen and Jori Hajek each drove in two runs for Northwestern.
Jamestown (18-8, 4-3) scored their three runs with two out in the first inning. Mackenzie Lefebvre struck out with two out, but reached first base on a dropped third strike. Ally Battistoni followed with an RBI double and Hope Ransome hit a two-run single.
Then Northwestern had their big third inning and four more in the fourth.
Ransome (6-3) couldn’t last through the third, giving up six unearned runs and two hits in two and a third innings.
Game 2: Northwestern 2, Jamestown 0
Errors extended both innings where Northwestern (28-2, 6-0) scored runs. Tatum Schmalbeck singled in a run in the third inning and Chloe Gallegos drove in the other run with a fifth inning single.
Jamestown (18-9, 4-4), who lost for the fourth straight game, was limited to three hits. Abby Blair (7-5) lost despite pitching her eighth complete game of the season. She allowed two unearned runs and six hits with six strikeouts and a walk.
The Jimmies will host College of St. Mary Saturday at Trapper Lawrence Field.
