JAMESTOWN – University of Jamestown Softball recorded its second consecutive sweep to begin GPAC play Saturday, defeating Mount Marty 6-2 and 13-2 inside the Nelson Family Bubble on the UJ campus.
Game 1: Jamestown 6, Mount Marty 2
The Jimmies scored all six of their runs with two out in topping the Lancers.
Mackenzie Lefebvre hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to put Jamestown (17-5, 3-0 GPAC) into an early lead.
Ally Battistoni had a two-run triple and Grace Fisher hit an RBI double for three Jimmies’ runs in their third.
Mount Marty (9-12, 2-1) scored their runs on an error in the fifth, but Kayla Quintanilla procured the runs back for Jamestown with a two-run double in the sixth.
Sunny Halsey (2-0) pitched the first four and a third innings for the win, allowing just two unearned runs and two hits with four strikeouts. Hope Ransome produced her third save by striking out four in two and two-thirds innings.
Game 2: Jamestown 13, Mount Marty 2 (5)
Jamestown (18-5, 4-0) had big innings in the first three innings to ensure the run-rule win for the sweep.
Quintanilla, who went 5-for-6 in the doubleheader, singled in two runs in the first inning for the Jimmies. Ransome doubled in another run.
Jamestown then had back-to-back five-run innings. The Jimmies’ five-run second inning was aided by four errors and a passed ball by Mount Marty (9-13, 2-2). Sam Martinez had an RBI double in that inning and Quintanilla hit an RBI single. Martinez brought in two with a double and Camryn Schwab had a two-run pinch-single in a five-run third inning.
The Jimmies will next play Wednesday in a doubleheader at Dordt.
