ELLENDALE, N.D. (Valley News Live) – An Oakes man is facing 29 charges related to child pornography, according to court documents filed Friday.

Ryan Lee Marthaller is charged with 25 counts of promoting or directing an obscene sexual performance by a minor. He’s also charged with four counts of possession of certain materials prohibited.

Court documents allege the incidents stem from the past four months, between November of 2023 and February of 2024. Documents say his victims include young girls and boys, some of them as young as three years old. His preliminary hearing is set for Mar. 11.

Marthaller is in the Barnes County jail on a $20,000 bond

Court records show Marthaller was convicted on similar charges in 2019, for luring minors by computer.

The following story was published back in July of 2018: An Oakes man made his initial court appearance in Dickey County District Court on a felony count of luring a child by computer or electronic device. A criminal complaint alleges Ryan Lee Marthaller sent messages to a 13-year-old girl in late June asking for nude photos, then sent sexually explicit messages while again asking for nude photos.
