Valley City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The District 1 Tournament wraps up today at the W.E. Osman Fieldhouse on the campus of VCSU.
There are 2 Region 1 Qualifying games and the District 1 Title game.
All games can be heard on KDDR The Tornado and KBMW.

Region Qualifier 1 – Oakes Tornadoes 58-59 BCN Bison
For the 1st time since 2007 the Bison are back in a Region Tournament. The Tornadoes struggled early against the Bison as BCN built a 14-11 lead after 1 quarter. They would build that lead to 26-22 at the half. The Bison would have a great 3rd quarter as well outscoring Oakes 16-11 to take a 42-33 lead after 3. The Tornadoes would storm back in the 4th and tie it at 50-50 with 5.8 seconds left. The Overtime period was quick back and forth but the Tornadoes had a last second 3 ball miss to give BCN the 59-58 victory.
The leading all around scorer was Trey Skoglund with 21 (8-20 FG, 5-7 FT). The leading scorer for BCN was Will Schwehr with 16 (5-13 FG, 5-7 FT).
BCN goes to the Region 1 Tournament to meet Ellendale in the quarterfinals. Oakes’ season comes to a close with a 11-11 record.
Region Qualifier 2 – Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds 60-58 Tri State Tigers F/2OT
Brian Quam had 16 points and seven rebounds as the Wabirds (10-13) advanced to the Region I Tournament with a 60-58 double-overtime win over the Tigers (7-16). The Warbirds jumped out 10-0 early and the first tie of the game was 40-40, which was the score at the end of regulation. The score remained tied, this time at 47, after the first OT before Wyndmere-Lidgerwood prevailed. The Warbirds will play Edgeley-Kulm-Montpellier on Monday at the Regional Tournament.
Kaleb Foltz had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
District 1 Championship – Sargent County Bulldogs 43-52 Hankinson Pirates
When the 2015 season ended, so did district tournaments, and Hankinson won the final district 1 tournament. Now, in 2024 with district tournaments back, the Pirates made sure to remind everyone who runs district 1 with a 52-43 win over the Sargent County Bulldogs in the District Championship game.
Raeshaun Earl had 21 points for the Pirates (19-3) who avenged a 2-point regular season loss to the Bulldogs (16-7). Sargent County got 16 from Luke Martinson and 15 from Josh Wittich in defeat.
Hankinson faces LaMoure-LM on Monday in Jamestown while Sargent County face Linton-MHB in the Regional Tournament.
