VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Water Resources District (BCWRD) invites you to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, March 20th to review the results of a study of the Sheyenne River from Lake Ashtabula north of Valley City, ND, downstream to the confluence with the Red River near Harwood, ND.
The BCWRD previously collected input from public and private landowners with infrastructure along the Sheyenne River, and identified areas where riverbank erosion and slope failures along this reach of the river are threatening public infrastructure, such as roadways and public utilities. The BCWRD also identified impacts to private structures and private utilities. The BCWRD has inventoried, categorized, and prioritized these erosion-related issues. This study was sponsored by the BCWRD with financial support provided by the North Dakota Department of Water Resources and the Red River Joint Water Resource District.
The purpose of the meeting is for the BCWRD to share the results of the study with stakeholders and to gauge interest in a coordinated effort to pursue funding to complete further analyses and potential remediation measures. This meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the Valley City Eagles Club, located at 345 12th Avenue NE, Valley City, North Dakota.
The meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the Upper Sheyenne River Joint Water Resource District and the United States Army Corps of Engineers’ annual Baldhill Dam operations meeting, which will be held at the same location beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interested parties are welcomed and encouraged to attend those meetings, and a complimentary lunch will be served at noon.
Questions on the study may be directed to Mike Opat at Houston Engineering, Inc. at (701) 499-9473 or mopat@houstoneng.com.
