Valley City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament continues at the W.E. Osman Fieldhouse on the campus of VCSU.

Loser Out 1 – Oakes Tornadoes 71-38 Maple River Raiders 

The Oakes Tornadoes beat the Maple River Raiders by a final score of 71-38. The game started well for the Tornadoes as they took a 19-5 lead after the 1st quarter of play. They would expand on that lead by dropping 26 more points in the 2nd to take a 45-15 lead. They would continue building that lead to 57-26 after 3 quarters of play and finally won 71-38.

The leading scorer was Trey Skoglund with 26 (9/14 FG, 5/7 FT). The leading scorer for Maple River was Tee Syling with 15 (6/10 FG, 3/5 FT).

The Tornadoes advance to Tuesday where they’ll play in game 1 against either Hankinson or BCN. The Raiders season comes to a close with a 6-15 record.

Loser Out 2 – Richland Colts 41-53 Tri State Tigers 

The Tri State Tigers beat the Colts to advance to a Region Qualifier tomorrow night. The game was slow to start with the score 10-10 after the first however the Tigers slowly built a lead of 6 that would disappear quickly the half would end 20-18 Tigers lead. The game stayed close through the 3rd as neither team could get ahead however the lead would extend to 3 points as it would be 30-27 after 3. The Tigers would pull away in the 4th to take the 53-41 victory.

The leading scorer all around was Richlands Casyn Syvertsen with 15 (5/11 FG, 5/7 FT) he also had the double-double with 16 rebounds. The Tigers were led by Isiah Rydell with 10 and Zach Smith with 10.

The Tigers advance to the Region Qualifier tomorrow around 6:00 PM against Wyndmere-Lidgerwood. Richland’s season comes to a close with a 6-15 record.

Semifinal 1 – Sargent County Bulldogs 74-53 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood

Luke Martinson poured in a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds on 11/13 shooting as the top-seeded Bulldogs (16-5) advanced to the District 1 Final with a 74-53 win over the Warbirds (8-13).  Sargent County used a first half in which it shot 57% from the field to build a 43-24 lead and never trailed in the game.

The Bulldogs face Hankinson in the District Championship Game.

Levi Kackman had 11 for the Warbirds, who face Tri-State in a Regional Qualifier on Tuesday at 6pm.  The Tigers defeated Richland in an elimination game 53-41 earlier Monday

Semifinal 2 – Hankinson Pirates 62-53 BCN Bison

Sophomore guard Raeshaun Earl scored a tournament-high 34 and Parker Hubrig added 16 as the Hankinson Pirates advnced to the District 1 Final with a 62-53 win over Barnes County North.

The Pirates will face Sargent County in that final.  The Bulldogs won the regular season meeting 43-41 on a layup at the buzzer.

Earl added nine rebounds and six steals for the Pirates (17-3) as they never trailed after taking an early 6-4 lead.  Chance Roaldson had 14 for the Bison (13-8) who will face Oakes in a Regional Qualifier.
