KANSAS CITY, KS – University of Jamestown Baseball opened its spring schedule Saturday with a split of its first two games.
The Jimmies lost to Clark University 5-0 before defeating Baker University 5-4 at the PBR Homefield Complex.
Clark 5, Jamestown 0
Clark starter Dante Maietta held Jamestown (8-1) to only two hits in a complete-game shutout while striking out 12.
Ryan Muizelaar singled and Isaiah Roebuck tripled for the only Jimmie safeties.
Luke Zimmer (2-1) struck out six in five and a third innings while allowing two runs and five hits.
Jamestown 5, Baker 4
Chase Burke singled, doubled, homered and drove in two for the Jimmies (9-1). Cade Torgerson (4-0) worked the first four innings for the win. He struck out four and he and five other Jamestown pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.
Jamestown scored three in the visiting second inning on a Jett Nelson sacrifice fly and RBI singles by Ben Patton and Burke.
Baker scored twice in their second, then the Jimmies made the lead 4-2 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Triston Madison.
Jamestown led 4-3 before Burke homered in the top of the seventh.
Baker scored in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at first, but Jack Howard struck out the last two batters for his first save.
The Jimmies will play Dakota State and William Penn on Sunday.
