Valley City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Class B District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament began at the W.E. Osman Fieldhouse on Friday, February 23rd with quarterfinal action.

Game 1 – #1 (#9) Sargent County Bulldogs 56-47 #8 Maple River Raiders
The Sargent County Bulldogs survived a raid by the Maple River Raiders in the first round. The game started well for the Bulldogs as they built up to a 15 point lead after leading by 12 in the first quarter 19-7. However the Raiders battled back to bring it to a 30-20 game at half. The Raiders kept riding high as they would battle it back to with in 6 as the score would be 37-31 after 3 quarters of play. The Bulldogs would see their lead shrink to 1 at one point before building the lead back up and outlasting the Raiders winning 56-47.
The leading all around scorer was the Raiders’ Carter Baasch with 17 (6/11 FG, 5/5 FT). For Sargent County Kolten Kadoun and Luke Martinson both had 14. Tee Sylling of Maple River had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs advance to the Semfinals while Maple River has their season on the line on Monday February 26th.
Game 2 – #4 Oakes Tornadoes 67-64 #5 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds
The Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds upset the Oakes Tornadoes winning 67-64. The game started well for Oakes as they took a quick 16-11 lead after 1 quarter of play however in the 2nd the Warbirds took a 26-25 lead. They would build on that to take a 46-37 lead going to the 4th. Oakes would try to battle back but fall short by 3 as a half court shot by Eddie Garza went off target to end the game.
The leading all around scorer was Eddie Garza with 21 (7/14 FG, 7/8 FT). Roddek Schmit had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The leading scorer for the warbirds was Hunter Dunn with 17 (7/7 FG, 3/4 FT).
The Oakes Tornadoes will now play Maple River on at 3:00 on Monday while the Warbirds will play the Bulldogs in the semifinals
Game 3 – #2 (#8) Hankinson Pirates 78-53 #7 Tri-State Tigers – 20 mins after Game 2
Cooper Boll sank seven three pointers and scored 24 as Hankinson rolled to a 78-53 win over Tri-State (6-15). The Pirates shot 55.4% from the field in scoring a season high in points. Sophomore Raeshaun Earl was 10/13 from the field for 22 points for the Pirates (17-3).
Hankinson will face Barnes County North in the second semifinal on Monday night while the Tigers face Richland in an elimination game Monday afternoon
Game 4 – #3 Barnes County North Bison 54-41 #6 Richland Colts – 20 mins after Game 3
Oliver Hanson scored 16 and the Bison (14-7) defense held Richland to just one three pointer in a 54-41 win Friday night. Jonah Harstad added 13 points for the 3-seed, who beat the Colts (6-15) for a second time this year
The Bison face Hankinson for a spot in the District Title Game on Monday night. Richland face Tri-State in a Monday afternoon elimination game.
