Jamestown, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The 3rd place and Championship games for the Region 1 Tournament were held on Thursday February 22nd at the Jamestown Civic Center. The Champion gets an automatic bid to the State Tournament while the 2nd and 3rd place teams will play Saturday in Mayville.

The games can be heard on KDDR The Tornado and 98.3 Thunder Country.

3rd Place: #7 Maple River 48-47 vs LaMoure-LM

The Maple River Raiders outlasted LaMoure-LM to advance to a State Qualifier game. The game was back and forth the entire way with the largest lead for either team being 6. The first quarter saw the Loboes take a 13-12 lead which they then lost after a low scoring 2nd quarter which saw just 13 points between both teams and the Raiders took a 20-18 lead at the half. The game was back and forth the entire 3rd quarter and ended 33-33. The fourth quarter continued back and forth play. With under 2 minutes left Violet Richman of Maple River went to the line to tie the game at 43-43 on the following inbound she would get a steal which would lead to a Kianna Lerud trey to take a 46-43 lead. LaMoure was unable to comeback and would fall 48-47.

The leading scorer was Violet Richman who had 16 (5/12 FG, 4/4 FT). LaMoure-LM’s leading scorer was Tessa Rasmussen who had 15 (6/17 FG).

The Loboes season comes to a close with a record of 15-10. Maple River will now play  #1 LEM  at Mayville in a State Qualifier game on Saturday February 24th.

Championship: #5 Sargent County 52-48 #6 EKM 

For the first time since 1995 Sargent County will be going to the Class B State Girls Basketball Tournament. The game started out well for the Bulldogs as they took a quick 10-6 lead after the 1st quarter of play they would build that lead up to 19-15 at the half. The 3rd quarter saw the 3’s start to rain for the Rebels as Abby and Mattaeya Mathern came alive to take the lead 35-34. The fourth quarter started out slow and was extremely physical however the Bulldogs managed to tie it late in the game at 41-41. The Rebels had a chance for final shot however Mattaeya Mathern missed a baseline jumpers which sent it to overtime. In the OT period Sargent County took a lead early and didn’t let go for the rest of the period winning 52-48.

The leading all around scorer was Mattaeya Matthern with 21 (8/19 FG, 4/6 FT), she also had a double-double with 13 rebounds. The leading scorer for Sargent County was Karleigh Kadoun with 18 (7/17 FG, 2/3 FT). Amber Kjar had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Sargent County advances to the State Tournament with the win. EKM has to play a State Qualifying game against Benson County on Saturday February 24th in Mayville State.
