MAYVILLE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The third and final day of the 2024 Division A Region 2 Girls Basketball tournament was held on Thursday night at Mayville State University’s Lewy Lee Fieldhouse with two games, here are the results:

No. 3 Carrington 52  No. 4 Four Winds/Minnewaukan 41 (3rd place)

The Carrington Cardinals had 17 steals and forced 26 Four Winds/Minnewaukan Indians turnovers to help them win the third place game by 11 points over FWM. It was the third time the two teams met this year, they split their first two meetings, both winning at home by four points. This game was tight early into the second quarter, featuring three ties and five lead changes, but the Cardinals hit three treys in the second quarter to help them pull away and win the contest. Carrington had two players in double figures, Edyn Hoornaert had 17, Madison Johnson added 13. Johnson also had nine rebounds and four steals. Kacie Rexin had seven steals and nine points. The Indians were led by Eighth Grader Suri Gourd with 23, FWM ends their season at 12-12 overall.

With the win, Carrington will play in a state qualifying game against the runner-ups from Region 1, the Valley City Hi-Liners this Saturday at Mayville State University at 1pm, the game can be heard on KDAK 1600/100.1 and newsdakota.com. The winner will advance to the State A Tourney in Minot starting February 29th.
