U.S. Southern Border (NewsDakota.com) – Governor Doug Burgum paid a visit to the dedicated soldiers of the 817th Engineer Company, stationed at the U.S.-Mexico border and hailing from Jamestown. His purpose was to express gratitude for their vital role in bolstering the efforts of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in fortifying the border.

Accompanying Burgum was Major General Alan Dohrmann, the adjutant general of the North Dakota National Guard, underscoring the significance of the mission. The deployment of the 817th commenced in early November, slated for a year-long commitment.

Approximately 125 service members from the company are actively engaged in providing crucial detection and monitoring support along the border. Governor Burgum emphasized the pivotal role they play in safeguarding the nation, the state, and local communities, ultimately thwarting illegal activities such as drug and human trafficking, thus potentially saving lives.

Out of security considerations, the military opted not to disclose the precise whereabouts of the 817th deployment.
