JAMESTOWN – Both University of Jamestown basketball teams completed regular season sweeps over Mount Marty Saturday at Harold Newman Arena, with the Jimmie women clinching a spot in the GPAC postseason tournament.

Jamestown’s women won for the eighth time in their last 10 games, running past Mount Marty 69-47.  The Jimmie men controlled the Lancers 88-79.

Women: Jamestown 69, Mount Marty 47

The UJ women won on the day where the 50th anniversary of the program was celebrated.

After leading by two points through one quarter, Jamestown (16-10, 12-8 GPAC) outscored Mount Marty 22-9 in the second quarter, helped by two Kate Cordes three-pointers, two buckets from Audrey Rodakowski, and a two and three from Kia Tower.  The Jimmies led 37-22 at halftime.

That lead only grew in the third quarter, with Tower scoring eight points in the first 5:42 of the period, including two three-pointers.

Tower led Jamestown with 15.  Rodakowski scored 14 on 7-of-10 shooting.  Cordes scored 11.  Kate Busek had eight rebounds.

Kaela Martinez scored 15 on 7-of-12 shooting for Mount Marty (5-21, 1-19), who lost for the 13th straight game.

Men: Jamestown 88, Mount Marty 79

Mount Marty, ravaged by injuries and without two of their regular starters, led most of the first half before Jamestown led 36-34 at halftime.

Silas Bennion and Cole Woodford hit three-pointers in a 12-0 run over the first four minutes of the second half that stretched the Jimmies’ lead to 12.  That run extended to 17-4 and Jamestown led by as much as 15.

Colby Vazquez scored a career-high 23 for Jamestown (15-11, 10-8), 16 of which came in the second half.  Vazquez was 8-of-9 shooting.  Bennion was 7-of-9 and scored 18 points, 13 in the second half.  They were the top two of six Jamestown double-figure scorers.

Antonio Chandler scored 13 off the bench.  Jimmy Llinas had his eighth double-double as a Jimmie with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Woodford and Will Cordes each scored 10.

Cole Bowen was impressive for Mount Marty (6-19, 2-17) with 30 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
