JAMESTOWN – The Blue Jay girls hockey team hosted Devils Lake for its final home game of the season on Tuesday night at Wilson Arena and the Jays put the spotlight on six seniors who skated on the home ice for the final time in their career.

The Firebirds spoiled the night with a close hard fought 3-2 victory and clinched a state tournament berth.

The state’s leading scorer was at it again as senior Ashlynn Abrahamson scored her 43rd and 44th goals of the season to spark her team. Abrahamson scored six goals against Jamestown this season.

The Jays fell behind 3-0 but 8th grader Grace Allmaras snapped in her fourth and fifth goals of the season to get her team back in the mix. Devils Lake 8th grade goalie Delaney Parker was able to close it out down the stretch with some crucial saves.

Jays senior goalie Olivia Sorlie had another outstanding game with 42 saves.

Despite the loss, Jamestown is mathematically still alive for qualifying for state. The Blue Jays will have to win in regulation at Fargo North/South on Thursday and have Williston, Bismarck Century and Minot all lose their remaining games.

The Blue Jays slip to 6-16 overall and 6-15-2-3 in league play. The Firebirds improve to 9-12 overall and 9-11-2-2 in league play.
