For the second game in a row, the Hi-Liner Boys scored 70+ points as a dominant offensive performance carried the Hi-Liners to a 79-61 win over Oak Grove.

The Hi-Liners looked to end the night early as they took advantage against an overmatched Grovers defense, pouring in 21 points in the first frame. This offensive charge would be led by a familiar face in Bryson Heck, who finished with a game-high 25 points. The Grovers were led by Kai Zabel, who had six points in the first half but needed more help from the rest of his team as Valley City took a 21-10 lead into the first intermission.

The Hi-Liner’s offensive surge would surpass its first-quarter mark in the second quarter as Valley City poured in 25 points. Carson Eggert managed to claw his way into double figures before the break, finishing the game with 13 points. For the Grovers they would find their groove offensively responding with 19-points of their own as Jack Dietz led the Grovers in scoring with nine points at the break. Despite Grover’s scoring effort, the Hi-Liners still sat comfortably in front 46-29 at the break.

The third quarter would see the Hi-Liners pour in at least 20 points again as Bryson Heck and John DeJong each led their respective sides in scoring in the quarter. The third would showcase a great display of team basketball as four different Hi-Liners scored during the quarter to help extend the Hi-Liner’s advantage to 66-45 going into the final frame.

A field goal by Carver Pederson would close the show for the Hi-Liners, starting five in the fourth quarter as Eggert, Heck, Carver Pederson, Zack Sykora, and Talon Larson all finished in double figures. The fourth would feature more offensive tenacity from the Grovers, outscoring Valley City 16-13 in the final frame. However, it was far too late for Oak Grove as Valley City coasted to a 79-61 win to improve their record to 10-7 overall and 6-3 in Region 1 play.

The next game on KOVC will be a VCSU doubleheader as the Vikings head down to Maddison, SD, to take on Dakota State, with the opening tip of the girl’s game set for 5:30 pm.
