A digest of University of Jamestown athletic results from February 10, 2024:
SOFTBALL
UJ Softball improved to 4-2 with victories over University of Mary and Northern State in the Nelson Family Bubble Tournament.
Jamestown 9, UMary 1 (6)
Jamestown (3-2) trailed 1-0 after a half-inning before scoring four runs in the home first, then ended the game by run rule with four more tallies in the sixth inning.
Maddie Spaeth had a two-run single. Grace Fisher, Hope Ransome, Sydney Grendler and Ally Batistoni also had RBI singles.
Ransome (2-0) allowed one run and six hits in six innings, striking out three.
Trinity Gregg had three of the Jimmies’ 12 hits.
Jamestown 6, Northern State 3
Kayla Quintanilla broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run single in a go-ahead three-run fourth inning. Trinity Gregg had an RBI triple for the Jimmies (4-2). Mackenzie Lefebvre and Samarah Martinez drove in runs with singles.
Abby Blair (2-1) pitched a complete-game win with four strikeouts.
The Jimmies will host Mayville State and UMary in the bubble on Sunday.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
After winning their first eight matches, Jamestown suffered its first loss of the season, losing 25-21, 29-27, 25-18 to Saint Xavier in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Caydann Cox led UJ with 16 kills, a .333 hitting percentage and eight digs. Tomas Swiderski had nine kills and five digs.
The Jimmies led in every set, including three different times in the first set.
Jamestown will play St. Ambrose University Friday in Davenport, Iowa.
ACHA DIVISION 1 MEN’S HOCKEY
Jamestown won the Midwest College Hockey championship with a 3-1 win over University of Mary at Wilson Arena.
Alek Erichuk scored the winner for the Jimmies on the power play with 8:02 left in the second period. Jordon Kromm’s 14th goal at 16:59 of the second gave Jamestown (22-8-0-0) some insurance. Jordan Baranesky had tied the game in the first period.
The MCH tournament will begin Thursday in Mandan at the Starion Sports Complex.
ACHA DIVISION 2 MEN’S HOCKEY
Jamestown lost to St. Thomas in the semifinal of the Western Collegiate Club Hockey Association Tournament in Blaine, Minnesota.
The Jimmies will play Wisconsin for third place on Sunday.
ACHA WOMEN’S HOCKEY
Jamestown closed its home schedule with a 5-1 loss to top-ranked Midland at Wilson Arena.
Crystal Wale had the only goal for Jamestown (13-14-0).
The Jimmies will play Friday at Minot State.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Jamestown finished seventh of nine teams at the KCAC Championships in Elkhart, Indiana.
Jada Shorter won in one-meter and three-meter diving.
Sulinke Van den Berg was third in the 200 yard IM, fifth in the 100 yard backstroke and fourth in the 200 yard backstroke. Cerys Williams finished fourth in the 100 yard butterfly, seventh in the 100 yard breastsroke and second in the 200 yard butterfly.
