JAMESTOWN – University of Jamestown Softball dropped Valley City State 14-2 and Dickinson State 6-0 Friday at the Nelson Family Bubble Tournament for the Jimmies’ first two wins of 2024.
Jamestown 14, Valley City State 2 (5 innings)
Two six-run innings helped the Jimmies to their first win of the season. Kayla Quintanilla homered, tripled, singled and drove in three runs. Gentrey Turin had two run-scoring doubles. Trinity Gregg had an RBI triple. Maddie Spaeth singled and drove in two runs.
Hope Ransome (1-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs and six hits while striking out four in a complete-game win. She also had an RBI single.
Jamestown 6, Dickinson State 0
Spaeth gave the Jimmies all the runs they needed with a three-run single in the third inning.
Camryn Schwab’s RBI double in the fourth extended the UJ lead to 4-0.
In a two-run six, Schwab drove in a run with a squeeze bunt and Sonya Rodgers stole home as part of a double steal.
Abby Blair (1-1) pitched six scoreless innings for the win, allowing just three hits, striking out seven and throwing 62 of her 82 pitches for strikes.
Jamestown (2-2) will host the University of Mary at 10:00 AM and Northern State at 8:30 PM Saturday in the Nelson Family Bubble.
