Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Carrington girls wrestling team finished in sixth place overall at the 2024 East Region tournament and qualified 7 individual wrestlers for the upcoming 2024 state tournament in Fargo. Grand Forks won the team with 170 points with Central Cass coming in second place with 152 points. Grand Forks crowned 4 individual champions, West Fargo United and Napoleon-GS each had 2 champions.

The Cardinals crowned 1 champion with Khendra Garcia at 130 pounds. Garcia pinned her way to the championship match with falls over Emma Schneider of Central Cass (:22), Isabelle Julian of Fargo (2:00), and Brynn Larson of Grand Forks (1:08). Garcia captured the title with a 12-2 major decision over Emersyn Schwab of Lisbon. Ashley Lindberg (250), pinned her way to the final as well with wins over Lacy Whittmayer of Grand (1:55) and Keiara Williams of West Fargo (3:12). Lindberg entered the tournament as the top seed but forfeited the championship match to Ava Moser from Napoleon-GS. Taya Lura (106), Jazmyn Ybarra (124), and Karlee Lesmann (170) all placed third, Lura (5 seed) defeated Avarie Jacobson (6 seed) 7-6 in the third place match and defeated Gabby Hannig (3 seed) from Valley City 7-5 in the consolation semifinals. Ybarra (3 seed) pinned Olivia Lindstrom of Devils Lake in  the third place match and defeated teammate Kelsi Neuman in the consolation semifinals by fall. Neuman (9 seed) finished in sixth place losing a tough 1-0 decision to the 4 seed Hailey Ford of Valley City. Neuman defeated the 8 seed Lydia Wolf in the opening round by fall at 4:31 and defeated the 7 seed Laken Kapaun of Central Cass by fall at 1:12.  Lesmann (6 seed) defeated Audrey Fuher (3 seed) for the second time in the tournament 5-3 to capture the third place finish. Lesmann pinned Fuher in the quarterfinals in 1:14. Lesmann pinned the top seed Lexiss Reynolds of Northwood in :45 to advance to the third place match. KendalL Kovar (8 seed) at 136 pounds finished in  fifth place with a fall ovwer Rachel Doll of Napoleon-GS at 3:27. Kovar lost a tough consolation semifinal match to Grace Lemar (2 seed) from Central Cass in sudden victory OT 3-1. Kovar defeated Liam Glynn (5 seed) from Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm by medical forfeit and a pin over Lexus Baker of Northern Lights.
