JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The opening day of the 2024 District 2 Girls’ Basketball tournament kicked off on Friday with four games at the Jamestown Civic Center, here are the results:
No. 1 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 84 No. 8 Ellendale 51
The number one seed in the tourney and rated seventh in the state in Division B Girls Basketball, the Rebels of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier cruise to an opening round victory over the Cardinals of Ellendale. EKM had four players in double figures, leading the way was Mataeya Mathern with 17 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and five steals, Jaelyn Bertsch added 14 points, Abby Mathern 13 and Libby Mathern 10. The Rebels made 11 3-pointers, four from Bertsch. Ellendale was paced by Siera Bollinger with 13 points and Ariel Hagen with 10.
No. 4 Linton/HMB 54 No. 5 Napoleon/GS 40
The second game of the day was fairly close for about two and half quarters, with Linton/Hazelton/Moffit/Braddock leading by just one point at halftime, 21-20. The three-ball helped the Lions in the second half, hitting five of their 10 total the last two quarters and outscoring Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 33-20 to get the 14 point victory. Jersey Vogel dropped in 21 points, including three 3-pointers, Emma Weiser added 17 points and 18 rebounds for LHMB. NGS Imperials were led by Senior Teagan Erbele with 13 points and 19 rebounds. Erbele is a five-year starter for the Imperials and has been averaging a double-double her entire career.
No. 2 Lamoure/LM 60 No. 7 Medina/PB 30
The number two seed in the tournament rolled to a 30-point victory over the Thunder of Medina/Pingree/Buchanan. Tessa Rasmusson had a game high 22 points, Addy Smith added 13 and Norah DelaBarre had 10 for LLM. They shot 51% from the field, 23/45. MPB was led by Allison Thomas with 11.
No. 3 Kidder County 54 No. 6 Strasburg/Zeeland 26
The Clippers of Strasburg/Zeeland shot just 22% from the field and missed all nine of their 3-point attempts as they drop to the Wolves of Kidder County by 28 points in the final game of the day. KC was led by Taylor Zimmerman 15 points and eight steals, Grace Nicholson had 11. For SZ, they were led by eighth grader Bobbi Janczewski with eight points, 11 rebounds and two steals.
