Mavis Ione Johnson, was born October 11, 1932, in Pekin, ND to Oscar and Petra (Ensrud) Anderson. She passed away on February 4, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND, at the age of 91.

The funeral service for Mavis will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel in Valley City. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Burial will be Monday at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

Mavis attended school in Pekin. She graduated from Pekin High School in 1950. She met Willis Kenneth Johnson in 1947 at a basketball tournament in Pekin. Willis was playing for Tolna and Mavis was a Pekin cheerleader. Willis joined the Navy in 1950. They were married in the Pekin Lutheran Church on June 1, 1952. They resided for a short time in Pensacola, FL, where Willis was stationed. Upon returning to North Dakota after his enlistment in the Navy concluded, the couple moved to Valley City where Willis attended and graduated from college in 1958. They made their home in Valley City where they raised their children. Upon retirement, they wintered in Apache Junction, AZ for 10 years. Willis passed away in 2008. Mavis became a resident of SMP Health – St Raphael in March of 2019.

Mavis was a stay-at-home mom and nana. Mavis and Willis enjoyed bowling, golfing, and their grandchildren. She was a member of First (Faith) Lutheran Church, a member of the VFW and American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son-in-law Mark Nordeen and grandson Joshua Nordeen.

She is survived by her five children; Bobbi (Gary) Siegel of Hawley, MN; Kathy Nordeen of Bismarck, ND; Teri (Terry) Feigitsch of Surrey, ND; Jeff (Lisa) Johnson and John (Jan) Johnson both of Valley City; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild due this spring and a very special cousin, Bonnie (Duane) Haas of Oswego, IL.
