JAMESTOWN, N.D. (DEM-NPL) – District 12 Democratic-Nonpartisan League (Dem-NPL) hosted a “Winter Blue Dinner” on January 26 in Jamestown.
Over 60 supporters showed up to hear guest speakers and connect with each other. This event serves to launch a year of local and regional political organizing.
Kathy Hogan, Dem-NPL Senate Leader, highlighted the important work their caucus accomplished in the past session toward issues that affect the everyday lives of North Dakotans– including improving support for childcare access and providers, property tax relief, suicide prevention, workforce retention and support, and an expansion of N.D.’s school meal
program. Adam Goldwyn, current Dem-NPL state party chair, challenged the room to meet this year with a sense of duty to participate in the democracy created for us by the founders of our nation.
Two candidates for U.S. Congress attended and spoke at the event- Trygve Hammer, candidate for U.S. House of Representative, and Katrina Christiansen, candidate for U.S. Senate both spoke about lessons learned from their last campaign and the momentum they have already gained toward offering North Dakotans a better choice on the ballot in 2024.
District 12 Dem-NPL seeks to inform and elect candidates of integrity in 2024. The group will support candidates who will listen and proactively represent the diverse personal and professional realities of our local community, and they want these perspectives better represented at the decisions tables in Bismarck and Washington DC. Local volunteers and supporters have voiced they are paying attention to issues such as childcare access, healthcare for all ages and genders, mental health resources, educator and public employee retention, effective support for people of different abilities and their caretakers, filling gaps in technical trade workforce, and investment in local infrastructure.
District 12 Dem-NPL aims to help give voters an alternative to the chaos and division brewing in the current political landscape, responding to many who are concerned by the consequences of an extreme right majority currently at play in state politics, and supporting people who will find real solutions to real problems.
