YANKTON, SD – University of Jamestown Basketball departed here with two wins Monday, but the Jimmie men had a closer call than they wanted.

After leading by as much as 16 points, the Jimmie men held on for a 72-71 victory over the Mount Marty Lancers at Laddie E. Cimpl Arena.

There was no such drama for the Jamestown women, who breezed to a 74-55 triumph, the Jimmies’ fourth straight win.

Men: Jamestown 72, Mount Marty 71

Colby Vazquez scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, in a solid first half to lead Jamestown (11-9, 6-6 GPAC) to a 45-32 halftime lead.  But a young Mount Marty team, playing without three of its starters, including its leading scorer, stormed back in the second half to make the game tight.

Jamestown was held to 37% shooting and missed six free throws in the second half.

Vazquez and Antonio Chandler (13 points, four rebounds) helped Jamestown score 36 bench points.  Will Cordes dropped in 10 points.  Silas Bennion scored nine.  Jimmy Llinas had seven points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Jaden Lopez, Cole Bowen and Jake Jensen each scored 15 for Mount Marty (5-14, 1-12).  Jensen’s three-pointer at the final buzzer cut the Jamestown lead to one, but the Jimmies led for all but 12 seconds of the game in winning for the second straight game and improving to 9-2 since a 2-7 start.

Women: Jamestown 74, Mount Marty 55

Audrey Rodakowski again used an increasingly strong inside game to help Jamestown (12-8, 8-6) to a fourth straight win.

Rodakowski scored 17 points with four rebounds to lead all scorers, scoring in double figures for the 18th time in 20 games this season.

Sarah Lenz hit three three-pointers and 11 points to lead a bench effort that saw 27 points scored by Jimmie reserves.  Kate Busek hit three threes for her nine points.  Kia Tower again played a complete offensive game with nine points, six rebounds and six assists.  Kate Cordes scored eight.

Mount Marty (5-15, 1-13) was within five points at 19-14 early in the second quarter before Jamestown decided the game with a 14-4 run to increase their lead to 33-18 by halftime.  The Jimmies used their advantage in the post for a 36-26 rebound edge.

Jadyn Jensen led the Lancers with 15 points.

Through Monday, Jamestown stood in a five-way tie for fourth place in the GPAC women’s basketball standings.
