The Hi-Liners found themselves in a seesaw battle for the first four minutes of Saturday’s game against Beulah. The following 28 minutes saw the Hi-Liners pick up a much-needed low-stress 69-28 win as their record now improves to 12-5 on the year, snapping a two-game skid.

Early in the first, the Miners went inside to their 6’2  center, Shea Barron, who started the game 3/3 from the field as Beulah muscled their way to an early 9-6 lead over Valley City. But after Barron went to the bench with foul trouble, the Hi-Liners closed out the opening frame on an 18-0 run, taking a commanding 24-9 lead into the second quarter.

Katie Burchill would lead a balanced scoring effort in the second quarter, scoring 10 of the Hi-Liner’s 20 points. The Miners couldn’t unearth the momentum they had earlier in the ballgame as they could only muster eight points of their own. At halftime, seven different Hi-Liners had recorded a basket as they could sit back and admire their 44-17 halftime lead.

The third quarter would see another clinical performance by Valley City as Drew Potratz, Dacota Potratz, and Tesa Olson all reached double figures on the day. The Miners again couldn’t find any offense to spare as Valley City outscored the visitors 17-7 in the third quarter with the game firmly in hand heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter would see a plethora of reserves take the floor for both sides, as the running clock would mercifully end the game, with Valley City picking up the 69-28 win.

The next game for the Hi-Liner girls will be Tuesday, January 30th, at 7:15 as they’ll rematch the Devils Lake Firebirds. That game can be heard on 1490 AM/ 96.3 FM KOVC, at NewsDakota.com, and on the KOVC TV YouTube channel.
