Lidgerwood, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The RV Oakes Tornadoes beat the Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbrds in a close game where the Tornadoes trailed by more than 9 several times ending up winning 45-40.
The game started poorly for the Tornadoes as their 2-3 zone defense did little to stop the Warbird offense while the Warbird’s defense prevented Oakes from getting to the inside and holding them 2/11 from the field. The Warbird’s led 12-6 after the 1st quarter of play. The lead would be extended to 9 a couple times in the 2nd before the Tornadoes began to come back and outscore the Warbirds and bring it back to within 3 ending the half down 25-22. Kassidy Jackson being key as she started to quarterback the defense and they would switch to man on defense. Jackson would have several steals and find her way to the charity stripe several times.
The 3rd quarter saw the Tornadoes take the lead while their defense held WL to 3/12 from the field in the quarter to take a 34-31 lead. The lead would switch back and forth in the 4th quarter a couple times however the Tornadoes did just enough to get a 5 point lead with under 30 seconds left. However the Warbirds were prevented from getting to the lane and took too much time to get a shot off to allow Oakes the 45-40 victory.
The leading all around scorer was Emerson Johnson who scored 19 on the night. The leading scorer for Oakes was Lily Thorpe with 14 going 7/13 from the field. Kassidy Jackson also had 12 going 2/6 from the field and 6/12 from the line.
The Bank North Player of the Game was Kassidy Jackson.
