JAMESTOWN – Seasons for the Jamestown High School varsity basketball teams have been difficult, and the Mandan Braves made them no easier on Friday.

Mandan swept a varsity doubleheader from Jamestown at Jerry Meyer Arena, with the Mandan girls winning 64-38 and the visiting boys taking a 79-47 victory.

Girls: Mandan 64, Jamestown 38

Mandan completed a season sweep of Jamestown behind 22 points from Sarah Heldrop off the bench of the Braves (10-5, 6-4 WDA).  Helderop hit five of Mandan’s six three-pointers.

Jamestown (4-10, 1-8) was within three points at 26-23 with 13 seconds remaining in the first half, but Anna Lyles made a three-pointer for Mandan 11 seconds later to give the Braves a six-point halftime advantage.

Mandan then scored the first nine points of the second half as Jamestown went through a stretch of just over nine minutes without scoring.

Amelia Newman led the Blue Jays with 11 points.  Hannah Attelson had 11 rebounds, with Leah Trumbauer pulling down 10 boards.  Jamestown committed a season-high 32 turnovers.

Boys: Mandan 79, Jamestown 47

Shelden Hudson led Mandan (7-8, 5-5) with 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and seven steals as the Braves avenged a home loss to Jamestown in December.

TJ Brownotter hit five three-pointers and scored 18 for the Braves.  Justin Hale had 10 points.

A 21-6 run by Mandan, bridging the end of the first half and the first two minutes of the second half, put the game out of reach for Jamestown (3-11, 1-8), who lost for the seventh straight time and remained winless in January.

Noah Meissner scored 10 for the Blue Jays.  Jack Van Berkom had nine points, three rebounds and three blocks.

Both Jamestown teams will host Bismarck St. Mary’s Tuesday at Jerry Meyer Arena.  Coverage will begin at 5:15 on Jamestown 107.1, with video coverage available at newsdakota.com.
